CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
Claire had always been proud of her ability to focus. She credited it for getting her to where she was today. No matter how awkward, unpleasant or unsurmountable the roadblocks, if she focused on the end goal, she could muscle her way through anything. Her focus was an asset. Hell, it was almost a superpower.
Until Kurt kissed her.
Then her ability to focus turned on her like a rabid squirrel.
Kurt was all she could think about.
She lay in bed at night, and the memory of his delicious heat and weight pressed her into the mattress as surely as if he was there in her bed with her.
She closed her eyes while sitting at the computer, and felt his firm grip on her jaw, his clever mouth working against hers, his tongue filling her.
She wrapped her arms around herself as she waited for her espresso machine to finish hissing, and she felt him moving over her, the uncompromising masculinity of his hard thighs and harder cock electrifying her.
(What was it with his thighs?)
Donât even get her started on the daydreaming.
Claire was beyond indignant at how much time sheâd spent daydreaming about him, staring into space as she replayed the birthday kisses and then conjured up whole new ones.
Like this: she was sitting on her patio. Kurt sauntered out of his house, wearing a pair of shorts and nothing else. He came over to stand at the fence between their yards. Laying his forearms along the top of the fence, he leaned into them, head tipped to one side as all he did was look at her. He held out a hand, and Claire damn near fell over herself with how fast she jumped up and rushed over. She rose up onto her toes as he lowered his head. They met in the middle with an open-mouthed kiss as they gasped and moaned and struggled to get closer.
And this: he was at the bar, working. Claire walked in and he smiled at her, as if sheâd made his day by showing up. She crawled up onto a bar stool (elegantly, no wobbling) and threaded her fingers through his hair, bringing his mouth to hers as he braced his big arms on the shining wood of the bar and pushed up into the kiss, deep and wet.
And this: they were at Meganâs coffee shop, sitting at one of the tables at the back. Kurt hooked a boot in the rung of her chair and dragged it closer. His hand went to the side of her neck and he leaned in, nibbling softly on her lips until she was panting and heâd risen up half out of his chair to reach her from across the table.
She daydreamed about Kurt when she was in her kitchen, in the garden, in line at the grocery store. She daydreamed about him when she was on a hike, refilling her tank at the gas station, at the library, and in her bed.
And when she was in the shower.
She
